Nvidia Steps Back from OpenAI and Anthropic Investments
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang signaled a strategic retreat from major AI investments during remarks at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference. The chipmaker won't pursue its previously discussed $100 billion infrastructure partnership with OpenAI, Huang confirmed, citing the AI lab's impending public listing as the primary factor. "That size of investment is not in the cards," he stated bluntly.
The cooling interest extends to Anthropic, where Nvidia's $10 billion November investment will likely mark its final commitment. This pullback follows months of uncertainty about the OpenAI deal, with Nvidia's February quarterly filing explicitly warning there was "no assurance" any agreement WOULD materialize. The disclosures come despite Nvidia's existing $30 billion stake in OpenAI, part of a $110 billion funding round announced last week that included Amazon's $50 billion commitment.
